We have sun and blue skies, it feels like summer, but where are the swallows, swifts and house martens? Usually we see the first ones towards the end of March, but this year we saw nothing until well into April when we saw two house martens. Since then we have seen a handful of house martens flying over our land but no swallows or swifts. I went online and did some research and was devastated to learn that thousands of migrating swallows, swifts and house martens have been killed by strong winds, heavy rain and low temperatures over Greece in early April. Their numbers were already dwindling – will they ever recover after this disaster?
