This is not an Aga Saga……

Hi!  My name is Liz, welcome to my blog.  I have been persuaded to write this by my husband, Malcolm, who seems to be under the mistaken impression that I will be able to write something  that other people will actually want to read.  I fear I may be about to prove him wrong (which will, in fact, be a minor victory for me, because generally speaking and very annoyingly he is always right).  First of all, it will be a miracle if any of my blogs make it onto the site and if any of my desired images manage to upload. Apologies in advance for any strange anomalies but,  “bear with, bear with”, I WILL get there!!  I am a 50 something year old (in denial) mother of two children who have now grown up  and left home (come back, left again, come back……..) definitely of the “boomerang ” generation!  Currently one of them is back with us having, sadly, split up with her fiancé.

We live in the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside not far from the sea, but also quite close to Dartmoor. We live in a grade 2 listed thatched cottage which is pretty, but tiny (though shortly to be extended) and have now 5 acres of land. We love where we live and consider ourselves very lucky. Though we have had our fair share of sadness and tragedy over the years and threat of financial ruin, we have always tried to remain positive and laugh where we can. So many times we’ve said we should write a book!  We have a passion for wildlife and have nurtured our field to provide suitable habitats for our native species and have been rewarded as more and more have moved in. We have been particularly excited to find dormice recently. Over the years we have had kept quite a menagerie of different animals and pets, though at present we have a rather modest nine Soay sheep and one dog, an elderly golden retriever (Barney), sadly we lost his brother Ben only a week ago.  We hope you will enjoy sharing our wildlife sightings and the progress of our still evolving field with us, along with other events in our lives you might find of interest.

We hope you don’t deem our ramblings to be a cheesy “aga saga” that’s really not our intention and we don’t even actually own one, so that’s a good start!  I have also never considered myself to be a “yummy mummy” (heaven forbid: there will be no recipes, sorry!),  it’s just that, like I said, we hope you will enjoy reading about our experiences and the wildlife we come across and looking at our photos.
